RICKY LEWIS + PATRICK BOWER
Ricky Lewis was raised in New England, got lost on Long Island, and found himself in Manhattan before setting up shop in Brooklyn where he now resides.
At times it recalls the dark pop sensibilities of Space Oddity-era David Bowie, at others the stoner-Americana of Neil Young. The lyrics offer unique reflections on youthful indulgence, lost friends, and love versus what we´re sold it should be, while pondering what it means to be an artist in an increasingly desensitized, over-saturated and swiftly evolving culture.
Born in 1978 to a large Midwestern American family, Bower has been writing songs and making homemade records since he was a teenager. His songs are informed by the classic songwriting of the 60s and 70s and skirt the line between lush and stark, using spare arrangements and unusual structures to convey his impressionistic story lines. The results have been likened to everyone from Scott Walker to Serge Gainsbourg.
This pursuit has led Bower through numerous albums under his own name or his band The World Without Magic. He currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, where he produces music in his home studio for himself and others.
