LOOP festival: Weird Wired World by Fellipe Vergani
Exhibition Opening + Artist Talk: 5 June, 19h.
“Everyone recognizes the visceral feeling of a live concert: the loud noise, the bright lights, the alternating tangle of cables crawling around the equipment…”
Weird Wired World is a sound installation, conceived by Brazilian artist Fellipe Vergani with the support of NDSM TREEHOUSE art residency. Key factor to trigger the project was the artist’s relationship with the English punk band Wire, whom he had been supporting since his teenage years.
During the band’s 2013 tour ‘Change Become Us’ in Germany, he shot a series of enigmatic images capturing the affective environment of the concert, yet willingly omitting the band members and the audience. By adapting the recorded music to a new idiom, Vergani navigates through a consistently wide soundscape, spanning from crashing dissonance to reflective ambience. The music of Wire is embodied and reiterated with modern production techniques, stretched and remixed, and subdivided in approximate decades.
